I know Linda, there are stories galore. From all cultures. In fact, I think it's the women who run countries, not by political power, but by sustaining families, the basic unit of any stable country.
Yeah. I still think that instead of forcing every woman to work we need to elevate the 'housework' without housework there are no families. and cultures have lost so much when women work for money. It's a whole essay that I want to write. It's a dream sold to people ---and in the long run society as a whole suffers when we do not honor what mothers did for free. we still need the work done, but now its not considered 'smart'. which is so far from the truth. Making a home will always be a career.
It is sad the economy often forces women into the work place while the children are still young. Working while raising children should be a choice, not a requirement. I was able to stay home with my two older children. I always regretted that Ron's car accident forced me back into the classroom when Allen was still young.
Yes, sometimes it feels like a well organized system to break families. In Europe --many countries allow part time work with full time security. Meaning they they work part time till the children are 12-14 years old. These years also includes paid holidays. Of course these countries are small and have all this embedded in their system. Mothers at home with children (exceptions always exist) provide another thing--a community around homes, and an emotional security to children. The long term benefits to any society are huge. But we little foresight. This aspect should be an active discussion just like so many other issues, education, abortion, screen time for children...all of it..and working status of mothers. But then the question comes with large divorces and single mothers....where does one go. So, the issue is modernity --that looses connection to ways that built with the long term effect first on family and as a result on the society. Just my two cents.
I am always glad to see women get the credit for being the creative and intelligent beings we are!

I agree! And women do not seek the credit. They just want to take care of their families and others.
